Nevados de Chillán is 480
kilometers south of Santiago, accessible by a well maintained paved
road and a dirt access road. The top lift served elevation is 2700
meters. The base elevation is 1600 meters. There are trails for
all ability levels and much off piste skiing. For snowboarders the
resort has a snowboard park and halfpipe. More snow falls here than
at the Santiago resorts, but the powder is heavier. The resort is
as well known for its mineral water first-class spa resort as for
its skiing and snowboarding.
Nevados has a base village with several lodging
options. The resort consists of a new 5 star hotel, a 3 star hotel,
and several condominium buildings. Cheaper options include staying
15 minutes away by car at Las Trancas village, or staying 30 minutes
away at Los Lleunques village. The City of Chillan is about 2 hours
away and has an airport, bus terminal, train station, many hotels
and an excellent handicrafts market.
