El
Colorado Trip Report
After several fall snowstorms,
El Colorado opened on Friday, May 20. For opening weekend, the
resort had the double treat of light powder and bluebird skies.
On Friday, the Leon lift opened on the upper mountain –
offering great powder for those lucky enough to make first tracks.
The steeper Condor and Cornisa lifts opened on Saturday, preserving
some fresh powder for those who could not make it for opening
day.

Base depths ranged from 50 to 100 cm, and the lower
mountain runs had a deeper base, augmented by man-made snow.
The conditions are still typical of early-season, with some
occasional rocks in the off-piste. However, forecasts call for
additional heavy snowfall on Monday, and conditions could be
mid-winter-like very soon.
Although, given sufficient snowfall, El
Colorado will open the season in May, in a typical year; the
resort does not have adequate base depths until mid-June. The
2005 season is off to an excellent start.
