Chile and Argentina
are emerging economies, but all the amenities of an industrialized
country are easily foundl. Prices tend to be somewhat lower than in
the U.S. But be forewarned that Chile and Argentina is not dirt cheap.
Many options are available for travelling within
Chile. To get to ski areas one can either rent a car or go up in
a passenger van for a modest price. There are many car rental agents
at the airport in Santiago, in Santiago, and in all major Chilean
cities. The ski area offices (tel. numbers are provided in the area
descriptions in this guide) can provide information on passenger
van service. A roundtrip door to door service costs about U.S.$
15 from Santiago to La Parva. Similar services are available in
other Andean resort regions.
Passenger bus service in Chile and Argentina is cheap,
reliable and of excellent quality. $30 buys a sleeper seat (like
a first class airplane seat) for a 15 hour trip.
Plane service is available throughout the countries.
More thorough information can be found in any number
of the excellent guidebooks.
