While you cannot find any specific current
South American ski and snowboard print guidebooks, several titles
have excellent mountain resort sections. You will find guidebooks

Frommer's South America (Frommer's Complete) is my favorite guidebook
for Chile and Argentina. it has detailed information for just about every ski and snowboard resort - both large and small - in South America. The guide also has information about accommodations on the mountain in all price ranges. In addition, you get a great all-purpose guidebook. If you bought just one book for your ski and snowboard trip, this should be it. Below is their reference to AndesWeb.

Lonely Planet Chile & Easter Island is a good choice for Chile-specific travel. The Lonely Planet series of guide books has earned
its highly regarded reputation. The Chile version is no
exception. The version for Chile
includes detailed information for all the major mountain resorts.
Particularly for budget lodging, the information is excellent and extensive. Included are detailed sections on the major mountain
resorts. Below is their reference to AndesWeb.

Chile: The Bradt Travel Guide is a good choice for backpackers in Chile. Bradt has long published guides for camping in the backcountry in South America. This guide branches out into general travel in Chile. City, town, hotel and transportation information have thorough coverage. There are also many pages on the various ski and snowboard resorts. Frommer's Chile & Easter Island, 1st Edition (Frommer's Complete) is the latest version of this Chile-specific guide. Look for even more detail about Chile as the excellent all South America version of this guide. It's the most recently updated Chile guide, and that makes a big difference. Santiago is in the midst of finishing (and beginning) some very big infrastructure projects. For example, Santiago has a new modern (but very confusing) bus system, and the metro more than doubled in miles over the past year. This Frommers guide has a great color map with metro stops in the front cover. The ski guide has a good section on the Santiago resorts and Termas de Chillan. Chile Experience Travel Guide has gorgeous color trail maps of the major ski centers in Chile. It has extensive color charts and road maps, as well as accommodation and travel infromation. This is definitely one of the best ski and travel guides for Chile. Although this book is difficult to find outside of Chile, once you arrive there you may find it at news kiosks, gift shops, and bookstores everywhere. The Amazon link refers to the 2001 edition. Be sure to look for the new 2007 edition. The Chilean company, Turistel, publishes both this English language version, and also several Spanish versions of the guide. |
