September in the Andes
August brought lots of sunshine, but very little new snow. Several storms were forecast, but they petered out before hitting the central Andes. The exception was further south in the Chilean Lake District and Patagonian Argentina. For example in Bariloche, Catedral reported over three feet of snow this past week. The forecast for the first week of September looks promising, with a chance of snow throughout the Andes. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Nevertheless, conditions remain good, as seen in our late-August AndesWeb photo essay direct from Portillo. Stay tuned for the latest details. Also, see our conditions page for detailed info.
