El
Colorado Trip Report
Sunday morning started pretty early,
as we woke up at 6:30am. (Although, not early compared to the times
I had to wake up to go snowboarding in Tokyo.) I just purchased a
brand new "HOT" snowboard in Tokyo, so I was pretty excited
about trying it out for the first time. My buddy and I headed up to
EL COLORADO, about 2 hours from the center of Santiago. We heard the
trip up the mountain could be crowded with traffic if we left late.
Plus, we wanted fresh tracks, so we left early to catch the first
lifts at 9:00am.

We nearly fell off the cliff when the little Toyota
Tercel slipped on some ice, but we managed to save our lives. Yes,
chains are required. We put them on right after our little spin.
As planned, we got there right as the lifts started moving and snowboarded
all day. It snowed a few inches during the past week, so there were
many areas with pretty nice powder. Other areas were well groomed
with perfect snow. The weather was absolutely gorgeous. You could
see Santiago covered with smog from the top slopes. The thought
of having to go back into the pollution made me nauseous. It was
good to breathe that fresh mountain air after being in the winter
smog of Santiago.
Overall, I was quite impressed with the entire resort.
It was well equipped and organized. The food was Ok, but the pricing
could be a little more reasonable. The snow was absolutely fantastic,
and I couldn't ask for anything more! If it is always that good,
I'm going every weekend!
