El Colorado is 50 kilometers
east of Santiago, accessible by a well maintained paved road.
The top lift served elevation is 3333 meters. The base elevation
is 2430 meters. Trails are of all ability levels, and the resort
has much off piste skiing. Trails connect to Valle Nevado ski
area. El Colorado recently installed 2500 meters of snowmaking
pipe. This covers three trails on the mid and lower mountains.
Snowboarders are welcome.
Several international ski teams train at El Colorado
every year. Many ski academies also visit El Colorado's slopes.
El Colorado has two villages, Villa Farellones
and Villa Colorado. Farellones is an older, bigger, more traditional
ski village. It is also less expensive to stay at one of the
inns here than at Colorado. Colorado is a more modern village
that has grown quickly over the last few years. It has a hotel
and several condo buildings. It is cheaper to stay in Santiago
than in either of these villages.
