It's pretty typical for July - akin to early January in the northern hemisphere. By August resorts typically will have their mid-winter snow-pack, and will be at 100% operation.
Portillo has some more lift-accesible steeps than at Valle Nevado or the other Three Valleys areas. Therefore, they need more snow to get everything going. Overall, though, conditions are good everywhere. Remember, all it takes is one big snowstorm - and they almost come by August - to get things to 100%. |

| I just got back. Portillo was open but low on snow. A ski inst there told me they usually have 22 meters by now but this year 2.5 metess only. We had a great time there anyway, but we are HARDCORE skiiers, most of my friends here in colorado would have left the slopes and gone home. We then went to Valle Nevado and it was the same( the road there is the worst I have ever seen not including 4WD). I would go back but I would pay and take a ski shuttle. Chappas Verdes was fun but small,, ( must get your auto inspected to get there,, private land ). Termanas de Chilie had some new snow but it had recently rained so tough conditions. We also surfed at Pichiliemu,, took lessons with great wetsuits incl,, WOW what a trip,,, WE LOVE Chilie |
